Food Shelf Long Prairie Volunteers
Volunteers needed for various tasks:
Many of these jobs require a strong back (and heart)
"Store Hours" we are open- 9-11:30, Wednesday and Friday each week.
- Working the "store": requires workers to come a little early and stay until restocking is done, So hours are approx.- 8:40-12:30 or so. This is the part where you would work with the public, and requires confidentiality.
NEEDED: Friendly people with reasonably strong backs and able to be on your feet for about three hours. For more information or to sign up, please call Volunteer Coordinator Jane Olson at 732-6895. - Bread Run: Once a week (Mon.) run to St. Cloud bread outlet to bring approx. 10-12 trays of donated bread back to our location. *Gas and mileage is a donation. Folks usually go with a partner and require a SUV, van or pickup. (Can volunteer once/month)
- Truck delivery: Delivery from Second Harvest is on the second and fourth Monday each month, at 12:30 for about one hour. Requires a little bit of strength and stamina to bring in boxes of goods on dollies to our shelves. We have a list of fellows available, but our list is shorter at times, making it harder to get 3-4 guys for a delivery.
- Food Drives: These are in the fall, requires picking up and bringing in bags and boxes of donations from churches (usually St. Mary's) or mail routes (post Office), weigh items and stock on shelves. This usually requires about 4 people to bring in, usually 4 others to stock.
- Walmart run: Every Monday 2 indivuals go to Walmart in Sauk Centre to collect the food rescue donation. Requires a truck or large SUV to bring back approx. 900# food in boxes. This job takes approx. 2 hours, start to finish (10:30-12:30) Can rotate volunteers and go 1-4 times per month.
- Coborns run: Every Friday, approx. 8-9:00am. Usually 2 individuals pick up coborns food rescue donation and bring to Food Pantry, carry it in and weigh. Also requires a strong back and truck/SUV
All of these tasks are 100% on a volunteer basis. Nobody at the food pantry gets paid for anything.
Some of us put in 10, 20 or even 40 hours a week.
